Printmaking workshops · Isle of Bute, Scotland
Make something beautiful. Look up and see the sea.
My studio in Rothesay sits slightly above the garden, with wide sliding doors opening onto a view across Rothesay Bay. From spring to autumn, sailing vessels moor below — tall ships, yachts, everything in between — and the wildflower meadow immediately in front of the studio provides plant materials we print with directly as the season develops.
It's an unusual place to make prints. That's rather the point.
Who these workshops are for:
Complete beginners are very welcome — I'll guide you through everything from scratch. If you've printed before and want to go further, there's depth here too. Groups are small by design: usually three people, occasionally four, which means you get genuine attention and real conversation about your work.
No experience is needed for any workshop on this page. Just curiosity.
What you can make here:
I teach five processes, each with its own character. Not sure which suits you? Get in touch and I'll help you choose — or let me suggest something based on what you're drawn to.
Monoprint
Immediate and intuitive. You paint or draw onto a plate and transfer it to paper. Every print is one of a kind.
Collagraph
You build a textured plate — from card, plant material, found texture — ink it, and run it through the press. Results are often surprising.
Linocut
Carve a design into lino and print it by hand. Bold, satisfying, and deeply satisfying to pull your first print.
Gelli printing
A flexible plate that needs no press — perfect for layered, painterly prints. A great entry point if you're new to printmaking.
Drypoint
Draw directly into a plate with a sharp tool and print the fine, velvety lines it creates. Immediate and expressive.
