INSPIRATION
A vivid tapestry at the Museum of Scotland, ablaze with reds and turquoise blues, sparked the initial idea for "Startled In The Moonlight". This was followed by an encounter with two deer in a birch wood. I imagined the scene illuminated by the moonlight, pulling in reference to Neolithic rock art I’d seen in a photo taken in a Northumberland wood. Earlier versions in the variable edition drew on the tapestry's vibrant colours. I embraced a more intuitive approach, in this version, allowing the colours of winter to dictate the final outcome.

INSPIRATION
"On The Hunt IX" is a key piece in my journey as a printmaker, focusing on wildlife. Inspired by the majestic owl, this work captures its graceful hunting over the beautiful landscape near Bamburgh Castle, seen from the busy A1. My art has evolved from earlier pieces about the endangered curlew, deepening my love for local birds. This edition depicts a winter scene with the owl in the snow, highlighting nature's beauty and challenges.
Living on the beautiful Isle of Bute has expanded my artistic perspective. The variety of bird life here inspires me, much like Northumberland did for many years. Both areas, with their dramatic coastlines and hills, offer great homes for these amazing creatures.
With "On The Hunt IX," I want to highlight the beauty and importance of our wildlife, especially the species at risk due to human actions. Through my work, I hope to inspire a greater appreciation for these birds and urge everyone to protect their habitats. Each print encourages us to cherish and safeguard our environment, ensuring healthy ecosystems for future generations. This is more than art; it's about connecting with nature and recognizing our duty to preserve the world we share with these remarkable creatures.

INSPIRATION
This colourful monotype/collagraph was the first print of an original landscape print inspired by stone walls and British birds of prey who hunt across the Northumberland and Scottish moorlands and coasts. I was playing with a stormy colour palette to capture the feeling of impending poor weather rolling in across the moors.

"In the Moonlight (A/P) | British Wildlife" - attempts to capture the unmistakable silhouette of this enigmatic bird, the curlew. Carol Nunan’s work celebrates British wildlife and raises awareness of the dwindling population of curlews in Northumberland. Through a meticulous combination of monotype printing and collagraph plate techniques, Carol has created a print that invites viewers to appreciate the curlew's otherworldly charm.

Along Hadrian's Wall, west of Stagshaw roundabout, a lone tree stands with views northward, to the Cheviots, while the South Pennines stretch southward.. An owl sits in its branches, it’s prey between its beak, silhouetted against the full moon, adding a touch of drama to the scene. INSPIRATION
"Stalking The Depths II" is a coastal fine art print combining monotype and collagraph to pay homage to the statuesque elegance of the grey heron. These birds stand patiently watchful at the water's edge, along the shores of the Isle of Bute and Northumberland , surveying the depths of the tidal pools in search of their next meal.
Carol Nunan finds inspiration from her observations of herons close to her home in Rothesay on the Scottish and Northumbrian coastlines. Blending monotype and collagraph techniques, the minimalist print captures the heron's serene character.
