INSPIRATION
Part of a series of original monotypes by Carol Nunan. The print started with the ghost image of residual ink from the first monotype print with additional colour added and the edges softened in the process. It features a curlew against a patterned background that evokes rock strata beneath the water — or the ghost of a fishing net. A quietly thought-provoking wildlife print from the Isle of Bute printmaker.

A unique monotype by Carol Nunan, Isle of Bute printmaker. Sinuous marks weave through the composition — river weed, seaweed, the natural debris of water moving over stones. Collagraphs - Square Format
INSPIRATION
Celtic Coast, a seascape art original print by Irish artist Carol Nunan who lives and works in Northumberland. It is inspired by her love of the west coast of Scotland and the west coast of Ireland.
The plate was originally created during a workshop with printmaker Peter Wray using fabric as the main material glued to mountboard and the plate edges and surface were burnt with a blow torch.

A barn owl hunts in silhouette against a full moon, the sky a deep royal blue scattered with stars, warming through ochre, burnt and raw sienna towards the horizon — where a distant hint of Bamburgh Castle sits above the sea. INSPIRATION

This series began on a crisp, frost-bitten dawn walk along Hadrian's Wall during Covid lockdown — one of the few moments of freedom, when the world had shrunk to a mile's radius. Walking the Roman Military Road near the Temple of Mithras, a large frost-covered tree loomed against a stone wall and a pale winter sky. This version imagines the same landscape after dark — a frosty night on the moors, an owl swooping silently across the scene.
