An Early Sprint Printmaking Workshops in Rothesay — Drypoint & Chine Collé
A day to discover the expressive potential of drypoint in a relaxed, friendly setting here in Rothesay. This course is aimed at people who enjoy drawing (you don’t need to be an expert) and who want to explore how line, texture and tone translate into rich, tactile prints.
What we’ll do
Learn the essentials of drypoint: how to score plates, build scratchy and velvety lines, and control tone with simple, confident marks.
Experiment with chine collé as an introduction — a delicate way to add colour, pattern and paper texture to your prints.
Combine drypoint with chine collé to create layered, evocative images that balance drawing and printmaking.
Try direct, spontaneous approaches so the work stays fresh and immediate; we’ll value mark-making over perfection.
Who it’s for
Suitable for beginners and those who draw but feel daunted by traditional techniques.
Ideal if you’re curious about printmaking, love texture and line, and want to make one-of-a-kind prints that feel personal.
Where and when
Held in my garden studio in Rothesay on four Friday afternoons this autumn. Small class sizes mean plenty of individual guidance and a relaxed pace.
What to expect
Hands-on demonstrations, plenty of practice time and friendly feedback.
All basic materials and presses provided; just bring something to sketch with if you like.
A creative, encouraging atmosphere where experimentation is welcomed.
Come and explore drypoint’s quiet intensity and the delicate possibilities of chine collé — leave with confident new skills and a small collection of unique prints inspired by the colours and textures of the west coast.
