INSPIRATION
On The Hunt VIII
A barn owl hangs silhouetted against a luminous full moon, the landscape below shifting from deep nocturnal blue into warm, aurora-like tones. In the far distance, the unmistakable outline of Bamburgh Castle meets the sea — silent, ancient, and watchful as the owl itself. Across the foreground, grasses and ferns native to the landscape emerge through overprinting, rooted in the very place that inspired this work.
This is no ordinary wildlife print. The original collagraph was created using found natural materials — plants, grasses and organic forms gathered from the landscape — printed with or used as masks to build up the layers of texture and tone that give the work its distinctive character. That connection between the land and the making of the print is at the heart of everything.
On The Hunt VIII is part of an ongoing series celebrating the wild birds of Northumberland and the Isle of Bute, building on an earlier focus on the endangered curlew. These are birds whose habitats are increasingly under threat, and whose beauty this work hopes to bring into your home as a quiet reminder of what we have — and what is worth protecting.
The original collagraph has sold. This strictly limited giclee reproduction — just 20 prints — offers collectors the chance to own this work at a fraction of the price of the original, with the same faithfulness to its colour, texture and detail.
Edition of 20. Available in four sizes.
