Reducing Plastic Waste Brings an Unintended Bonus!

Newsletter subscribers and regular customers know that last year I began to look into ways of reducing the amount of plastic I use in packaging.

For many of us the amount of additional time we’ve been forced to spend in our homes has resulted in an upsurge of home decorating and home renovations. If we can’t easily spend money on foreign travel some are spending that holiday money giving our homes a revamp.

I want to make sure my products don’t harm the environment.

At home, we avoid plastic-wrapped items and buy fruit and vegetables from a local greengrocer.

Chris and I finally made time to take a very well earned break. We went back to the most beautiful place I know on earth - the Outer Hebrides - Isle of Barra, Eriskay and then on the way home, the Isle of Bute.

I’m in a reflective mood this week. Yesterday I realised it was the 6th anniversary of signing the lease on 4 The Courtyard, Ochrelands Workshops - a studio all of my very own. I moved in on May 23rd 2015. A year later Chris, my husband, gave up his full time job to join me. A significant leap of faith.

As an artist whose work is based on landscape, seascape and wildlife, I cannot fail to notice, especially over the last year, how precious our environment is. More needs to be done to reduce waste, especially plastic waste.

Here we are at the start of the New Year and in national lockdown ... again. Feels like ground hog day right?
